Walk The Proud Land

 Walk The Proud Land
Cat No. ODNF226

Based upon the true story of John Philip Clum (Audie Murphy), Walk the Proud Land is one of the few Westerns of the 1950's to take a sympathetic and historically accurate view of the Native American Indian's fight with the white settlers. Clum is an Indian agent sent to the San Carlos Apache reservation in Arizona in 1874 to prevent further bloodshed and stop the renegade chief Geronimo (Jay Silverheels) from encouraging young Indian braves to take up their weapons and fight once more. Clum's struggle is made worse by the townsfolk and cavalry who believe that the only good Indian is a scalped one. But whilst Clum makes enemies of the governor, cavalry officers and the more headstrong Apache braves, he begins to win the trust of the elders by talking of the government's new peace plan for Indian autonomy rather than submission and prevent the reservation from siding with Geronimo...

~ Four Fast Guns ~ After blasting the 'town-tamer' that was meant to travel to the town of Purgatory, gunfighter Tom Sabin (James Craig) takes his place and rides into Purgatory. The local townsfolk have employed a town-tamer to put a stop to the cattle-rustling and land-grabbing of Hoag (Paul Richards) and his wife Mary (Martha Vickers). But as Hoag is wheelchair-bound he elects to bring in the fastest guns in the West to outdraw the town-tame...including Sabin's brother. ~ Outlaw Women ~ Dr. Bob Ridgeway (Allan Nixon) is leaving the town of Silver Creek because there is nothing for him to do but pull slugs out of gunfighters. When the Doctor is kidnapped by Beth Larabee (Carla Balenda) and taken to Las Mujeres to attend to a dying woman he finds himself in the middle of a shootout when Callaway arrives. Smelling money in Las Mujeres, Callaway's men are not averse to killing a few women to get what they want... ~ Stranger on Horseback ~ Judge Thorne (Joel McCrea) is a circuit judge who comes to a small western town which is under the feudal thumb of the Bannerman family. Headed by Josiah Bannerman (John McIntire), his trigger-happy son, Tom (Kevin McCarthy), and his strong-willed niece, Amy Lee (Miroslava) the whole town is either related to the Bannerman's or working for them. After a man is killed by Tom Bannerman in supposed self-defence, Judge Thorne states that Tom has to stand trial in his court. As the Bannermans close in on Judge Thorne, he remains steadfast in his desire to uphold the law, even if it means putting on his gun belt again...
