| | Ninety Degress In The Shade Cat No. ODNF214
A rare gem of a film that was a British/Czech co-production, filmed in Prague before the Soviet clampdown of 1968 and nominated for the 1966 Golden Globe award for best English foreign language film. Vorell (James Booth) is a flighty married man with little concern for anyone other than himself. He has recently ended an affair with co-worker, Alena (Anne Heywood), the manageress of a liquor store in communist Prague, but when a government inspector, Mr Kurka (Rudolf Hrusínský), arrives to check their inventory, it soon becomes apparent that Vorell is running a scam to sell liquor on the black market. Scared for his job and reputation Vorell leans on Alena, reigniting their affair under the watchful and lecherous eyes of the emasculated Mr Kurka, whose wife (Ann Todd) is an alcoholic unwilling to have sex with him. As the temperature of Prague’s summer reaches ninety degrees in the shade, the heat of lust and envy in the liquor store inevitably leads to violence and death…

An epic tale of three sisters, their loves and their lives, played out by an all-star British cast, They Were Sisters was voted fourth in the National Film Awards of 1946 behind The Way to the Stars. Lucy (Phyllis Calvert), Charlotte (Dulcie Gray) and Vera (Anne rawford) are three sisters who are pursued by three very different kinds of men asking for their hand in marriage. | | Isadora Cat No. ODNF216
Isadora Duncan was the most iconic free-style dancer of the twentieth century who courted both admiration and scandal in equal measure. Her unique style of dancing made her the guests of King's, Queen's, nobility and Russian revolutionaries, ultimately making her the 'peoples' dancer'. But her Bohemian lifestyle and unorthodox morality led to a personal life that was marred by misunderstanding, tragedy and ultimately her own untimely death. Available on DVD for the first time with an enormous selection of extras, this Oscar and BAFTA nominated film stars Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave in a stunning portrayal of Isadora Duncan. Adapted for the screen by Melvyn Bragg, Isadora burns her parents' marriage license as a little girl and pledges her life to 'Beauty and Art'. Whilst her genius for dance and free spirit causes a sensation across Europe, her naiive, effervescent radiance leads to an almost accidental succession of lovers in Paris Singer (Jason Robards), Gordon Craig (James Fox) and Sergel Essenin (Ivan Tchenko). As she sips champagne and dictates her memoirs at the Negresco Hotel in Nice, Isadora reflects upon a life and art that were anything but conventional...
